Ben Taub, Chairman
The
The name "Taub" speaks for itself and exemplifies philanthropy
and healthcare. H. Ben Taub is the nephew of the eminent Ben Taub,
for which Ben Taub General Hospital is named. H. Ben Taub promotes
quality healthcare to the less fortunate and is an integral part
of the Harris County Hospital District Foundation. He has been
a major supporter of the mobile health program, which provides
high quality medical services to the medically underserved children
of Harris County. Mr. Taub also sits
on the Baylor College of Medicine Board of Directors and is the Chairman and
CEO of Brand Coffiee Service, Inc. back

Larry
L. Mathis, Vice-Chairman Mr.
Mathis was formally Chief Executive Officer of The Methodist
Health Care System, in Houston, Texas. He is also Chairman
of the Board of the Greater Houston Hospital Council, the
Texas Hospital Association, the American Hospital Association,
and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Mr.
Mathis also is a member of the Sulzer Medical Board of
Directors and recently authored a book based on his professional
experiences. back

Virginia
(Ginni) Mithoff, President Ms. Mithoff's list of credentials outlines many volunteer activities. She is
affiliated with the Society of Performing Arts, Contemporary Arts Museum, University
of Texas, Greater Houston Collaborative for Children, TIRR, and the Children's
Health Advisory Committee. Ms. Mithoff and her husband have quietly donated
to many altruistic organizations. The Foundation is proud to recognize Ms.
Mithoff as one of the newest members to the Hospital District Foundation. back

Roland
Garcia, Jr., Vice-President Mr. Garcia is a widely recognized Mexican-American representative who frequently
writes and speaks on legal topics, education, juvenile justice, and minority
opportunities. He is a partner in the law firm, Locke Liddell & Sapp, L.L.P.
Mr. Garcia is the President of the Houston Bar Association, Secretary of the
Mexican-American Bar Association, and was appointed by the Texas Supreme Court
to the Judicial Selection Task Force. He is also a member of the American Leadership
Forum, Aspiring Youth Foundation, Memorial Hermann Foundation, and the Downtown

Susan
M. Cooley-King, Ph.D., RN, Vice-President Dr. Susan Cooley is the newest member to the HCHD Foundation Board
of Trustees. Her extensive philanthropic and professional background
yield her a true asset to the HCHD Foundation. Dr. Cooley received
her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from Texas Woman's University.
She is currently the Director of REACH OUT & READ
a statewide literacy promoting program. In addition to her professional responsibilities,
Dr. Cooley spends her time with organizations such as Lord of the Streets:
A Program for Homeless Men, Episcopal High School Board of Directors,
Bo's Place: Center for Grieving Children, and other community minded
programs. The HCHD Foundation welcomes Dr. Cooley to the board. back

Elvin
Franklin, Jr., Treasurer Mr. Franklin is
another prestigious member of the Harris County Hospital District Foundation.
He spends much of his time supporting civic community organizations while
running his own insurance agency. He is the only trustee who sits on the
Board of Managers for the Hospital District (governing body of the Hospital
District) and the Board of Trustees for the Hospital District Foundation.

Matthew
Plummer, Jr., D.D.S., Assistant Treasurer
Dr. Plummer graduated Cum Laude from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine
and with a Masters in Public Health. In addition to his private practice, Dr.
Plummer serves as Assistant Chief of Community Dentistry for Baylor College
of Medicine. As well as serving as Chairman of the Nominating Committee for
the Hospital District Foundation, Dr. Plummer sits on the Board of Directors
for: Heritage Bank, the DeBakey High School for Health Professions, NAACP,
YMCA South Center Branch, and many other health related organizations. back

Barbara
Schachtel, Ph.D., Secretary Dr. Schachtel is
currently the Secretary for the Harris County Hospital District Foundation.
She received her Ph.D. from the University of Texas School of Public Health
and was affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children's Hospital,
and The Methodist Hospital. She was formally the Vice-President of
the Harris County Mental Health Association, President of Wellesley Club
of Houston, and Board Member of Child Guidance Association. Dr.
Schachtel is the recipient of the "Who's Who of American
Women" award in 1991-92 and
the "Good Heart Award" by the B'nai B'rith Women. She was honored, "Great
Texan" by the National Foundation of Ileitis and Colitis. back

Wendy
W. Kelsey, Assistant Secretary Ms. Kelsey organized a non-profit community garden and orchard program and
is the Associate Director of the Urban Harvest program. She believes in the
beautification of the community as well as aiding in the improvement of healthcare
programs for underprivileged citizens. She is also a member of: the Advisory
Board for the Houston Adventure Play Association, the Environmental Foresight
Committee, the Greater Houston Women's Foundation Grants Committee, and the
Board of Advocates for Planned Parenthood. back

Scoular is president and leading consultant of Scoular Associates Planning
Consultants, which lists institutions such as: John Hopkins, Stanford, Howard
Hughes Medical Institute, St. John's and Kincaid. Prior to creating Scoular
Associates, Mr. Scoular was Director of Planning at Baylor College of Medicine.
He spent the majority of his time renovating and modernizing programs and raising

Hank Coleman, Ex-Officio Mr. Coleman is currently a partner with Vinson & Elkins, L.L.P. specializing in Public Finance. He has experience in the
financing of public and quasi-public entities such as: Houston's
Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, Wortham Theatre, Enron
Field, the Reliant Stadium, George R. Brown Convention Center,
Rice University, and many other impressive local and national
organizations. Mr. Coleman is an adjunct professor of law at the
University of Houston and was listed as one of the Best Lawyers in America
in 2001. Mr. Coleman acts as counsel for the Hospital District Foundation.

Quentin
R. Mease, Chairman Emeritus Mr.
Mease was the
founding chairman of the Hospital District Foundation. He is noted for founding
organizations such as the Harris County Hospital District and the Houston
Area Urban League. He served as chairman of the Hospital District Board of
Managers for 14 years. Mr. Mease has been the recipient of the Outstanding
Leadership Award for the South Central YMCA, the Community Service Award
by the Houston Area Urban League, and the Humanitarian Award by A. Philip
Randolph Institute. Mr. Mease recently published his memoirs in a book titled "On
Equal Footing." back to top
Dorothy
Caram, Ed.D., Emeritus As
a resident of
Houston, Dr. Caram acts as an adjunct Professor of Sociology at the University
of Houston. As a result of her dedication to years of volunteer work, King
Juan Carlos bestowed an award naming Dr. Caram the "Lady in
the Order La Catolica." She is also recognized as the "Distinguished
Mexican American" for her participation in the Fiestas Patrias Celebration.
Additionally, she sits on the boards of: United Way Texas Gulf Coast, Volunteers
of America, Houston Pops, Houston Ballet Folklorico, and many more.
